Higher Learning Commission Campus Visit

"Itasca Community College provides accessible academic and career-related education which contributes to the social and economic health of the region, empowers learners to meet or exceed their expectations, and fosters critical thinking and civic and global engagement."

On Monday, April 27 through Wednesday, April 29, 2009 an accreditation team from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) will visit the ICC campus. I invite you to review the HLC report, a culmination of  the efforts that have been put forth since our last visit in 1999 and what ICC envisions for its future. The Itasca Community College faculty and staff, along with the valuable input of our students and community members, participated in the Foundations of Excellence (FOE) project during the 2007-08 academic year. This project helped our college identify the experience of the "first year" student and what areas we can work on to be sure we give our students the very best opportunity to successfully complete their goals.

The completion of the Foundations of  Excellence work has provided a bridge to the Higher Learning Commission process which has streamlined our efforts in preparing for the HLC visit. The campus-wide committee structure we organized provided an opportunity for campus and community input regarding our accomplishments of the past, and more importantly, our plans for the future. We are completing our strategic planning process during the 2008-09 year as well and we are excited about the high level of energy and enthusiasm being put into the HLC visit and our future planning efforts.

Itasca Community College is built upon a strong history of quality education for students. The college has many strong partnerships that help leverage our assets, along with those of our partners, to enhance our efforts in making Itasca Community College, a "great place to start!" We appreciate your support as we develop and implement educational practices that address the important challenge of significantly increasing the number of citizens with high quality post-secondary credentials. We look forward to our HLC visit with great anticipation.
