ICC 2011-2012 Recap
The Vikings finished another stellar season. Itasca finished 6th at the National Tournament. 5 of the Viking wrestlers qualified for Nationals – Justin Valhuerdi (125#), Casey Williams (149#), Conner Monk (157#), David Booth (165#), and Spencer Corey (197#). The five qualifiers
wrestled tough at Nationals, and Casey Williams became the 9th 2-time All-American for Itasca. With the stellar finish, the Itasca Viking Wrestling Team finished top among other Minnesota schools.
Casey Williams was also honored with the first ever Region XIII Wrestler of the Year award. Casey was the Itasca Team Captain and named The Most Valuable Wrestler by the team. Conner Monk was also noticed for his accomplishments, being name the Minnesota Collegiate Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Year. Monk was a 2-time MCAC Champion, and earned almost 30 wins in 2011-2012 season. Conner was also named the Outstanding Viking wrestler in 2012.
Coaching Change,start of a new era...
The Vikings also named former-assistant coach David Copp as the new Head Coach. Coach Copp helped lead the 2011-2012 squad to success. Coach Copp was a 3-Time WIAA State Qualifer, taking 2nd in 2005. Coach David Copp was an assistant at Oostburg High School and aided in the Oostburg wrestling team make it to their first two ever WIAA Team State Championship appearances. Coach Copp wrestled at Lakeland College. David spent the 2009 summer wrestling with the elite US National Team competing in Bulgaria and Turkey. At Lakeland Copp was named team captain and in 2009 set the career record for wins (97) and takedowns (348).
“David has served as an assistant this year and helped out with all aspects of the program. David earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Lakeland College in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. David is very passionate about wrestling, and his commitment to academics was well-received by the committee. Congratulations, David!”

The Itasca wrestling family also welcomes Matt Morgan as an Assistant Coach. Coach Morgan wrestled at Braham High School in Minnesota where he experienced great success. Coach Morgan was a 2-time Minnesota State Runner-Up. Coach Matt set the career wins and takedowns record at Braham. After a 4 year Stint with the United States Marines Coach Morgan is set to help lead the Viking Wrestling Team to a National Title.
