Smartphone Access to Employee Email
If you have a "smartphone" or other mobile device, you may be able to get Outlook content on the device. Your phone will need to meet these specifications:
- capable of using ActiveSync to connect to Microsoft Exchange
- data plan (or wifi) for sending and receiving your email, calendars, etc
- an active StarID account at Itasca Community College
Here is what you need to get ActiveSync running on your smartphone:
Your email address should be what you see in the display name of your Outlook web client (it is shown in the upper right corner of the Outlook Web App. It should be in the form of email@example.com
The password to enter is your StarID password (same one you use to log into Outlook Web App and everything else.
The server is "outlook.office365.com"
The setup will automatically assume that your email address is your username. It is not of course, so you'll have to use your StarID when prompted for your username. Enter it with the trailing "@itascacc.edu" (eg firstname.lastname@example.org)
There should be a place on the setup to tell it to accept all certificates Please check these boxes.
- Create a new account on your phone/device
NOTE: you may get a warning to the effect that you must agree to allow the Exchange Administrator to have permission to Wipe your phone back to Factory Default state. This is for your security in the event that you lose your phone or if it gets stolen. You will then have the ability to reset your phone so no-one can get data from it.
